After the quarantine period ends there is a rain of international chess tournaments in Sri Lanka. One of these is the 9th Mercantile and Government Service International Rating Chess Championship - 2020. The tournament was started on 29th August 2020 and it will end on 1st September 2020. There are 7 rounds and around 80 players of 11 teams are participating in the tournament. Below are the teams who participated in the event.

After the fifth round ends Kumara CMS Praneeth (99x Technology) is leading with 5 points while Abewardhana AABDP (Sri Lanka Army) and Rathnayaka MAAH (Virtusa) are in the 2nd and 3rd places with 4.5 points.
